Christian and Pablo. Pablo and Christian. Also known as the artists duo called NEVERCREW. Not without a good reason they are the winners of the Swiss PAINT CLUB Battle. They were attracted by the PAINT CLUB because of painting in a limited time and having a crowd behind their back. Moreover they experience a thrill by a topic which isn’t announced before, so there are no drafts possible. „It's nice that there is a club that brings together street artists from all over the Europe.“, the two talents confess. Christian and Pablo started in 1996 by doing graffiti, drawings and graphics but also photography and videos. All the time they tried to blend their reciprocal passions, the old and the new ones, to create, build, have fun, evolve and in the best case maybe to communicate.
Nevercrew distinguish oneself by using different styles and influences while combinating various elements of graphics, collage, lettering with those of street art, graffiti, and traditional painting. On the one hand, there are topics and techniques of pop, an influence of surrealism in images, situation and matches. On the other hand, we can also find graphics in the composition or use font and sculptures. After attending the Art School in Lugano and afterwards the Painting course at Brera's Art Academy in Milan, they decided to continue alternating between personal work and research with work on request. They don't use to take inspiration by anyone in particular in their art works – „We like to create starting from ideas that we work out afterwards.“ The incentives and the desire to create come to them from many things, such as artworks of other artists, but also events, everyday life situations, movies or memories and emotions.
Their main artworks are the "Octopus" painting at the Skatepark of Lugano or the "Daydream in a Box" painting. In their eyes Urban Art has become a huge container in which it’s difficult to accurately determine contents and rules. The interesting thing about the Urban Art is certainly the interaction with the site and the communication with people. The situation, where the work is done, sometimes fleetingly, sometimes illegally, and mostly associated with a lot of work! So potentially it’s becoming much more of many other forms of direct communication. The Urban Art lives in places and it's part of them, and, although sometimes with apparent stylistic constraints, it's free and can show different aspects of the reality. Smart words, true words!
Finally, these two guys have a nice book tip-offs for all of us: "Street Sketchbook Journeys" by Tristan Manco and "Trespass" by Carlo McCormick. We will have a look and thanks to Nevercrew for their words and support. Good work, Switzerland. Artist website: |
